TwentySomeone: Finding Yourself in a Decade of Transition.  By Craig Dunham and Doug Serven, Random House, 2003.

As a Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) campus minister, I am often asked, "What book do students heading to college need to read?" For nine years I have had no answer. Now that book has been written. TwentySomeone by Craig Dunham and Doug Serven (a PCA minister and RUF campus minister at the University of Oklahoma) gives young adults the wisdom they need.

In an era when they have vast freedom and little responsibility, most young adults unfortunately receive little wisdom. Dunham and Serven have jumped into that void to tell these twenty somethings to discover who they are before they decide what they will do. I like this book for three reasons: it is readable, pertinent and practical.

Your students can and will actually read this book. The authors use familiar stories from the Bible, life and modern culture to teach in a very accessible and enjoyable way.

The authors also make the points that need to be made. With well written and convicting chapters on integrity, teachability and faithfulness, they impress upon the reader that the heart is the main thing.  

Finally, this book discusses the Christian worldview practically. Unfortunately, most books that seek to explain worldviews lose the reader in a morass of existentialism, nihilism, marxism and various “isms.” These authors tackle issues of money, time and relationships, the very issues young adults must begin to see biblically.

I have found this book enjoyable and full of wisdom. I am now using it as a small group study in the RUF at Mississippi State University. I hope it becomes the staple diet of college, career, and young married groups throughout our Church.
